Review:
Andy (Anne Hathaway) just graduated from Northwestern University and she goes to New York to find a job in journalism. She is having no luck until she gets an interview at “Runway Magazine”. It is the best fashion magazine in the world with the most powerful editor, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Andy is interviewing to be Miranda’s second assistant. Streep is fabulous as the all-powerful editor. She makes her wishes known by a movement of her eyebrow or a tilt of her head. Fashion designers bow to her taste. Andy gets the job but all she does is hang up coats and get coffee. When Andy decides to get serious about her job, she starts to dress better. We get to see all her fun fashions and Miranda’s fantastic wardrobe. At the same time, Andy is working longer hours and having to break plans with her friends and her boyfriend (Adrien Grenier). Miranda needs Andy all the time and her life becomes her work. Andy’s friends are neglected and upset with her. She also gets caught up in a relationship with a famous journalist (Simon Baker). One night, she has too much to drink and she has sex with the journalist. She realizes that he has been dishonest with her and immediately regrets sleeping with him. She decides that she has to make changes in her life and get back to what she always wanted to be a journalist. She learns some important life lessons from Miranda. There is some sensuality and Andy lives with her boyfriend. There is also some irresponsible drinking with bad consequences. The issue of being too thin is spoken about several times. This is a very entertaining movie for teen-agers 15 and older. Has your child ever had a teacher that was very difficult? How did they deal with her?
