Rating: PG - 13 Overall rating: 3 1/2 out of 5 stars Best for Ages: 17+ Ages 3 - 7: Red Ages 8 - 12: Red Ages 13 - 17: Red Violence Amount: Yellow Violence Portrayal: Yellow Fear: Yellow Illegal / Harmful: Yellow Language: Yellow Nudity: Green Sex: Yellow Review: This movie is very suspenseful and
scary. It takes its theme from the Alfred Hitchcock classic “Rear
Window”. It updates the movie to the time of cell phones and makes the
main characters teen-agers. Kale is a good kid who snaps one day and
hits a teacher. He is put on house arrest for the summer. He cannot go
out of his yard or his ankle bracelet will go off and the police will
come. His mother takes away his X-Box and I-pod. Out of boredom, he
begins to watch all the neighbors. He discovers a couple committing
adultery, young boys watching porn, a lovely new next-door neighbor
moving in and a man behaving suspiciously. He begins to think that the
man is a serial killer the police are looking for. He involves his best
friend and the new neighbor girl in his watching. There are grisly
images in the movie, a fatal car crash and decaying bodies. There are
sequences of terror and violence. There is also some sensuality,
language and teenage drinking at a party. I was tense throughout the
movie. There were moments of laughter about the boy’s situation and
basic teen antics. I would recommend this movie to teens 17 and older
and to adults. Does our use of media change our form of communication
with others and our community? Does it intrude on our sense of privacy?
Do we still know how to be alone with ourselves?
