been turned into a wonderful movie. Fern (Dakota Fanning) saves the
runt of the litter of pigs on her family’s farm. She names him Wilbur
and he quickly becomes her best friend. When Wilbur is too big for the
house, he must move into the barn with the other animals. He tries to
make friends with all the different animals but they just ignore him.
Then, Charlotte the spider (Julia Roberts) comes along and wants to be
his friend. Wilbur makes friends with all the animals as time passes.
They become more like a family. The other animals are afraid to tell
Wilbur that he will be a meal in the spring. Charlotte decides to help
make Wilbur too special to slaughter. She chooses just the right words
to write with her web and get Wilbur noticed by everyone. One of the
themes of the movie is diversity. All the animals learn how to get
along, no matter how big or small. There is some mild action and potty
humor. There is also a sad death. The idea of slaughtering animals may
be scary to some children. I would recommend the movie to children 6
and older. Why does Fern love Wilbur so much? What do all the animals
learn from Wilbur?
