10 Best and Worst Movies of 2004

Best Movies
1. Ray Jamie Foxx is flawless playing Ray Charles.

2. Sideways A small movie that made big waves with film critics. It is touching, funny and totally charming.

3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind The farther into the movie that you get, the more you will understand and like the characters played by Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet.

4. Finding Neverland The story of James Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, is another wonderful vehicle for the talented Johnny Depp.

5. Million Dollar Baby Clint Eastwood, Hillary Swank and Morgan Freeman are perfect in their roles. Eastwood stars, directs, produces and he wrote the music.

6. Hotel Rwanda The story of the genocide in Rwanda of the Tutse tribe in the early 90's. Don Cheadle is incredible.

7. Phantom of the Opera The music is divine, there is no need for dialogue.

8. Spiderman 2 The sequel has just as much action plus more heart and emotion from Tobey McGuire.

9. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban These fantasies are marvelous fun to watch. This third one is the best so far as Harry and his friends continue to grow up and make more decisions for themselves.

10. Manchurian Candidate This film is more than a re-make. It is a total update of the theme of the original movie. Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep and Liev Schreiber are all good in their roles.

Honorable Mention
The Incredibles for an animated film sure to please any age group.
The Polar Express is the newest Christmas classic movie.
Garden State was written, directed and starred Zach Braff (the guy from the TV show "Scrubs"). I never would have believed it.

Worst Movies
(Or most disappointing)
1. Alexander A 3-hour journey to nowhere with Colin Farrell along as irritating company.

2. Dogville I don't care if Lars von Trier directed. This movie was a total dog for Nicole Kidman.

3. The Village M. Night Shyamalan disappointed most of his viewers with this less than scary movie.

4. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow The entire movie was filmed against a blue screen. An interesting concept but not ready for prime time yet.

5. The Girl Next Door The story of a teen-age porn star and her next-door neighbor boy was directed at teenagers. Shame on the producers and all involved.

6. White Chicks 2 black cops dress as 2 society debutantes. Who thinks of these things?

7. Torque This motorcycle movie portrays all females as sex symbols with little or no brains.

8. Team America: World Police Matt Stone and Trey Parker have truly lost their minds on this one. These marionettes swear constantly and have sex without tangling their strings.

9. Surviving Christmas Ben Affleck's "Gigli" of 2004.

10. Christmas with the Kranks I like Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis but their talents were wasted in this over-commercialized, and not sweet enough, Christmas story.
